On June 18, the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Board of Trustees approved the selection of Dr. Jamillah Moore as President of Los Angeles City College (LACC). Dr. Moore has served as Interim President of the 16,000-student campus since September of 2007.

“In her short tenure as Interim President, Dr. Moore has earned the respect of the staff and faculty at LA City College and together they have adopted a high standard of student service,” LACCD Chancellor Dr. Marshall E. Drummond said.

“The East Hollywood community surrounding LACC truly sees this campus as an ‘urban oasis of learning,’ and Dr. Moore’s unique outreach efforts to local schools, churches, hospitals and community based organizations will further enhance the growth of this institution.” Drummond added..

Dr. Moore brings more than 15 years of educational, public policy, instruction and advocacy experience to LACC. In 2005, she led the state recovery team for one year as the Interim President of Compton Community College, working to sustain educational opportunities for that community. Prior to that appointment, Moore served at the California Community College System Office as a Senior Vice-Chancellor for Governmental and External Relations. She previously worked in Governmental Relations at the LA County Office of Education.

A Los Angeles County native, both of Dr. Moore’s parents attended LACC. Now she will launch 2009 planning efforts to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the college.

Dr. Moore holds an Ed.D. from the University of San Francisco, where she earned a doctorate in International and Multicultural Education. She is also a former EOP student and graduate of California State University, Sacramento, where she earned a Masters in Intercultural Communication and Public Policy, following a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication.

LACC is one of the most diverse campuses in the 109-campus California Community College System, located adjacent to the Central Los Angeles, Koreatown, Filipinotown and Little Armenia areas of the city, it services a large international student community.
