Urgent Call to Increase Immunization Coverage and Therapeutics Usage for Influenza, COVID-19, and RSV

December 20, 2023

Dear LACCD Community,

We hope this email finds you and your families well as we enter the holiday season.

As we look towards preparing for the upcoming winter season, we wanted to alert you to an urgent health advisory from the CDC that current vaccination rates for influenza, COVID-19, and RSV are low, yet respiratory virus activity is high.  The increasing number of respiratory diseases signals to us all the critical need to take important steps to safeguard the health and well-being of our families, as well as our students, faculty, and staff. The concerning trend of low vaccination rates poses a significant risk to the health of individuals and the overall well-being of our communities.

Given the potential for increased respiratory disease activity during the upcoming winter season, we encourage everyone to get vaccinated.  These viruses can cause severe illnesses and place additional strain on our healthcare system. The County of Los Angeles Public Health website contains useful information about these vaccines and where to find a vaccine location near you.

As members of the LACCD community, we share the responsibility of creating a safe and healthy environment for everyone.  Your decision to get vaccinated not only protects you but also contributes to the well-being of those around you.

Let us come together to create a safer and healthier community.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
