Celebrating Black History Month: Join Us in Celebrating a Rich Heritage
Dear LACCD Colleagues,
February marks the beginning of Black History Month around the nation. At LACCD, it serves as an opportunity for reflection and celebration, as we honor and elevate the history, culture and significance of our Black/African American community. Our nine colleges and District Office are hosting a series of dynamic events and programs, and you are cordially invited to participate.
Here are a few highlights and announcements to share:
-
Our colleges are honored to sponsor the Black College Expo on February 10 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, an event that connects students with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). This outreach initiative aims to open doors for educational and transfer opportunities.
- For aspiring scholars, the African American Outreach Initiative (AAOI) will accept scholarship applications beginning February 15. Students can receive financial support to pursue their academic dreams and contribute to their legacy of excellence. LACCD students can access the application through the “Scholarships” tab in their student portal or through this direct link. Visit this site to donate and support this scholarship fund.
-
Our Umoja community at the colleges has curated thought-provoking events throughout the month that delve into the rich history, culture, and achievements of the Black community.
-
LACCD is proud to announce our agreement with African American Male Education Network & Development (A2MEND), an organization that fosters an environment that supports the success and advancement of African American men in education. A host of educational programs will occur throughout the calendar year, including establishing A2MEND student clubs on campus, professional development opportunities and a Districtwide educational summit.
To access detailed information about all of the Black History Month events at each college, please visit our dedicated LACCD Black History Month website: Website Link.
Our diversity at LACCD is our strength. Enjoy Black History Month and thank you for your dedication to the success of our students.
With admiration and respect,
Francisco C. Rodriguez, Ph.D.

10am - 5pm
Join us for the 25th Annual Los Angeles Black College Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center. All students at all nine colleges are registered under LACCD and may attend the Black College Expo for free. LACCD is honored to sponsor the event for the first time, one that connects students with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
This outreach initiative aims to open doors for educational and transfer opportunities. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with representatives from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), as well as other educational institutions, and access information about scholarships, athletics, and much more!
This event is to increase the recruitment, enrollment, retention, completion and transfer rate of students interested in attending an HBCU.
Please note: Again, students who show their college ID may enter the event for free under the LACCD registration.
