Joseph Emmanuel - Los Angeles Southwest College Student Spotlight of the Week

Never one to back down from a professional challenge, Joseph Emmanuel was one of the first to get involved with the Stream Team at Los Angeles Southwest College. Introduced in August 2024, the program gives hands-on professional experience in digital video, journalism, and streaming at athletic events.

“I was scrolling on Instagram and I saw the ad for the LASC Stream Team,” Emmanuel said. “I didn’t know what to expect but after hearing from the TVX production crew I was excited to learn I could choose between broadcast commentary, becoming a camera person, and working in the production truck. So, I tried them all.”

It didn’t take long to notice that Emmanuel had the charisma and talent for commentary. The moment he got behind the microphone things started to click and fans began to notice. Energetic, lively, and fun are just a few of the words used to describe his live broadcasts. Even though it was his first time doing it, his natural love of sports and genuine attitude helped bring the Stream Team to life.

Emmanuel plans to transfer to Cal State Dominquez Hills and major in broadcast journalism. His transition from home school to college has been seamless and he is confident that the educational stage will be as successful.

“I have many goals,” Emmanuel said. “I want to be a filmmaker, photographer, or branch out into broadcasting. I’d even like to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a game show host and look back and say ‘Hey, little guy, we did it.”

While his future looks bright, his legacy will live on through the LASC Art Club. As President, he brought the group new life by recruiting new members and commissioning projects. He believes that art brings people together and after overcoming childhood bullying, he wants to provide safe spaces for others to express themselves and feel supported.

Collaboration is another thing he values and part of the reason why he enjoys working on the campus murals. He recalls the process for making the Juneteenth mural in the Umoja office because it was a mashup of all of the artists' creative expressions and visions.

“Everyone has an artist within them, they just don't know it yet,” Emmanuel said. “I want everyone to realize that, and when they do, they’ve already made something outstanding.”
