Los Angeles Community College District provides students with financial aid appeal process

The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) financial aid office provides students with the opportunity to appeal their academic progress to ensure that they meet the eligibility requirements for financial aid.

The appeals process is divided into two categories: satisfactory academic progress (SAP) and special and unusual circumstances (SAP). Students will be evaluated based on their cumulative grade point average (GPA) and the number of attempted units they have completed. Students with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and who have attempted at least 66.5% of all units are eligible to reinstate their financial aid eligibility. Students who do not meet these requirements will be required to submit an appeal explaining their reasons why academic progress was not met and what changes they are making to help improve their academic record.

The deadlines for submitting appeals vary based on the term in which the student is disqualified. The process involves submitting documents explaining the circumstances that caused substandard academic progress and describing the steps and actions taken that will help improve academic progress in the future. Students may also be required to include supporting documentation to submit the appeal.

If the first level of appeal is denied, students will have an opportunity to submit a petition to have the first decision reviewed. Students can submit additional statements and documentation in the same manner as in the first appeal.
