Update on Federal Grant and Loan Payment Pause
Dear LACCD Family,
We continue to monitor the evolving situation following the federal Office of Management and Budget’s January 27, 2025 memo (OMB Memorandum M-25-13) pausing payments of federal grants, loans, and other assistance to various federally funded programs. This hold was not intended to apply to student financial aid loans, Pell Grants, or other Title IV programs.
On January 28, 2025, a federal judge in Washington temporarily blocked the Trump Administration from enforcing the directive. While OMB also rescinded its January 27, 2025 memo, the administration indicated it was still intending to review federal spending.
Our office continues working closely with the California Community College State Chancellor’s Office, the Community College League of California, and other partners to assess any potential impacts. For now, we advise our colleges to continue the work of all federally funded programs. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
Sincerely,
Alberto J. Román, DPA
Interim Chancellor
