Destiny McLemore - LATTC Student Spotlight of the Week

Destiny McLemore is currently a Social Justice student in her second year at LATTC and aspires to work in politics with social justice organizations one day. In addition to pursuing her academic studies, Destiny has been involved in several activities at Trade-Tech, serving as the Associated Student Organization (ASO) Vice President. Destiny is often seen organizing and pitching in at events throughout campus, working to build student involvement and foster a vibrant school spirit.

Additionally, Destiny has been one of the anchors of LATTC Umoja, a national program dedicated to enhancing the cultural and educational experiences of African Americans and other students. This fall, Destiny was honored at the 20th annual statewide Umoja Conference as Umoja Student-of-the-Year. The Umoja Global Office considered student nominations from programs throughout California and Washington to determine the student awardee. "The award took me by complete surprise,” said Destiny McLemore. “I'm thankful to the Umoja program for supporting me and I am so proud to represent Trade-Tech.”

This year’s conference theme was "Voices of the Future: Elevating Student Leadership and Agency" with the aim of inspiring and empowering students to recognize their potential and advocate for themselves and their communities. Destiny is a shining example of the conference theme, demonstrating leadership within her community at Trade-Tech.
