Mid-Semester Reflections and Appreciation

April 14, 2025

By Juliet Hidalgo

Dear LACCD Family,

As we reach the midpoint of the semester, I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude for the work you continue to do—for our students and for each other. I appreciate the effort, ingenuity, and patience demonstrated by our campus communities across LACCD as we’ve responded to evolving state and federal demands this year. It has taken a monumental effort to get to this point—one grounded in our shared commitment to student success.

This time of year can be both rewarding and challenging—for students and for all of us who support them. I know how difficult it can be, and that’s why staying connected and present is more important now than ever. Let’s face these challenges together and emerge stronger.

To our faculty—your influence in the classroom cannot be overstated. Every lecture, discussion, and piece of feedback carries the power to inspire confidence, curiosity, and resilience. You are the anchors in students’ academic journeys, and your words and presence help them persevere and thrive.

To our classified professionals—you are the heart of our wraparound services. From financial aid and counseling to admissions and tutoring, your consistent, caring support ensures students feel seen, heard, and capable. You are essential to keeping students on track, connected, and supported.

To our administrators and college leaders—your guidance and commitment to fostering supportive, collegial, and inclusive environments ripple across our institutions. Your leadership shapes the experiences our students and employees have every day.

As we enter the second half of the semester, let’s lean in and finish strong. There is still important work ahead as we address and balance District and college budgets, boost enrollment, and focus on student retention and completion. Your continued engagement is vital. I humbly ask that you connect with students, participate in outreach and enrollment events, promote your programs and services, and engage in campus conversations—working alongside your academic senates, labor unions, and administrators.

I also want to encourage all of us to lead with kindness and empathy, especially as many in our communities continue to recover from recent wildfires and adapt to a changing social and educational landscape. Let’s continue to care for one another and extend grace and gratitude wherever possible.

Together, we are a powerful network of support, influence, and encouragement. Let’s continue to reach out, check in, and uplift our students—and each other—as we move into the second half of the semester.

Thank you for everything you do. LACCD is stronger because of you.

With appreciation,

Dr. Alberto J. Román, DPA
