A message from Interim Chancellor Dr. Alberto J. Román

Dear LACCD Community,
It has been an incredible honor to serve as President of East Los Angeles College over the past four years, and now it is my distinct privilege to step into the role of Interim Chancellor for LACCD. I am immensely grateful to Dr. Francisco Rodriguez for his transformative decade of service, leadership, and vision for our District. As I look forward to continuing his legacy, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, and local leaders for trusting me with the opportunity to help lead the District into this new chapter.
Stepping into this role fills me with a deep sense of purpose, gratitude, and responsibility. LACCD stands as a beacon of opportunity, equity, and social justice, and I am dedicated to building on the outstanding work already underway across our colleges. Together with our remarkable team, I am committed to ensuring every student has the resources and support needed to thrive and achieve their dreams. Our District’s legacy of academic excellence, community partnership, and innovation provides a strong foundation for expanding opportunities that empower both our students and our communities.
Working alongside such a dynamic and diverse community of students, educators, and leaders is a privilege, and as a first-generation college student myself, I hold a profound respect for LACCD’s role in creating access to quality education. I am particularly inspired by our mission to foster an inclusive environment where every student, regardless of background, can realize their potential. In my new capacity, I am fully committed to enhancing instructional quality and expanding student support services to help students achieve their educational and career goals.
In the coming months, my focus will be on fostering strong relationships and meaningful collaboration. I am eager to work closely with the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor’s Cabinet, college presidents, academic leaders, student advocates, and our many community partners. Together, we will ensure that LACCD continues to be a transformative force in the lives of our students and that we advance our shared commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice.
We are in a strong position, supported by an improved budget, an experienced leadership team, and the steadfast backing of our community. I am aware of the challenges ahead but am fully committed to creating an environment where every voice is valued. Open communication and transparency will be central to my leadership, and I will soon be announcing regular office hours and Chancellor’s Forums to keep our lines of communication open and accessible to all.
As we move forward, I am filled with optimism and excitement. Thank you for welcoming me into this exceptional community. I look forward to listening, learning, and leading with you as we build upon the remarkable legacy of Chancellor Rodriguez—a legacy defined by shared purpose, growth, and a relentless dedication to student success.
