Los Angeles Trade-Technical College President Named to National Commission on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Los Angeles, CA—July 22, 2024. This month, Dr. Alfred McQuarters, President of Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (LATTC), was appointed to the National Commission on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). His term dates are July 1, 2024–June 30, 2027. 

The Commission on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion focuses on embedding AACC’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and excellence into institutional culture and supporting diversity in the recruitment and hiring of leaders. The Commission on DEI is one of nine authorized by the AACC board and consists of an average of 24 individuals from member institutions who are CEOs or administrators.

Together, we will champion inclusivity, amplify underrepresented voices, and foster an environment where every member of our campus communities thrives.” 

Dr. Alfred McQuarters has served as the President of LATTC since 2023. LATTC is the lead agency institution for both the South Los Angeles Promise Zone, for which the South Los Angeles Transit Empowerment Zone (SLATE-Z) serves as the backbone entity, and the Transportation Workforce Institute. In his role, Dr. McQuarters leads efforts to revitalize and empower South Los Angeles through educational programs, workforce development, and other comprehensive and collaborative solutions that provide access to family-sustaining employment. 

Throughout his career, Dr. McQuarters has primarily worked in community colleges located in ethnically diverse urban cities including Chicago, the Portland Metropolitan area, and now Los Angeles. LATTC serves approximately 23,000 students, 85% of whom are students of color. 

Dr. Alfred McQuarters is an accomplished leader in the field of education, renowned for his commitment to data-informed decisions and developing teams of equity practitioners to dismantle barriers that prevent equitable student success. He has served on numerous boards and workforce councils, using a shared equity leadership framework to drive change. His research centers on the intersection of Racial Battle Fatigue and Community Colleges. Also, as a molecular biologist, Dr. McQuarters is a champion for a diverse STEM workforce. 

The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) is the primary advocacy organization for the nation’s community colleges, representing more than 1,000 2-year, associate degree-granting institutions and nearly 12 million students.

Located just south of downtown Los Angeles, Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (LATTC) is one of nine public community colleges in the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD). Established in 1925, the college offers more than 80 career-technical programs that move students into careers in two years or less.
