Dear Esteemed LACCD Colleagues,

I am writing to share that I have submitted written notice to the Board of Trustees of my retirement as Chancellor, effective November 2, 2024.

I owe my life's journey to my parents and family.  My father is almost 99 years old and his prevailing health conditions compel the assistance of caregivers to meet his day to day needs.  After spending time with him and my sisters recently, I made the very difficult but necessary decision to retire to focus on my father’s well-being and to spend critical time with him, and to assist my 93-year old mother and my sisters, who are the primary caregivers for him at home.  I am blessed to have this opportunity to now principally focus on my parents for the remainder of their lives.

It has been my distinct honor and privilege to serve as your Chancellor for the past 10 years, and I will forever be grateful for your confidence, support and collegiality.  I am very proud of the work that we have accomplished together to foster the success of our very talented and inspiring students, and to fulfill our community college mission of providing access, equity and educational opportunity.  I am absolutely confident in this District's promising future to continue to fulfill this noble and necessary purpose.

The Board of Trustees has met and will continue to discuss options and potential next steps for the recruitment and selection of the next Chancellor.  More information will follow when it is available and we will keep you apprised as to the next steps to ensure a smooth transition.

With My Deep Respect and Admiration,
