Hiring Process
Appointments will be made from the top three ranks of those who are “ready, willing and able” to report for the job. Your name will be certified only to locations and type of positions (i.e., temporary vs. regular) which you select on your application. Availability may subsequently be changed by submitting a request in writing to the Personnel Commission at PersComm@laccd.edu. Your name will remain on an active eligibility list until you are hired or make yourself unavailable.
Some positions in a class may require a California driver’s license or the ability to speak and/or read and write a foreign language. In such instances, persons who possess the requirements will be certified first.
Persons selected for jobs may be required to pass a physical examination given by a Los Angeles Community College District medical consultant.
Employees become permanent upon successful completion of a probationary period, which is 130 working days for most positions.
All candidates with a record of convictions for offenses, other than minor traffic violations, must file a “Report of Convictions” form at the time of hiring. Such a conviction record, or failure to report a record of convictions, may bar you from employment. All persons chosen for appointment are fingerprinted in order to check for and/or verify conviction records.
Reasonable Accommodation
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Los Angeles Community College District provides reasonable accommodation to qualified individuals with covered disabilities on a case-by-case basis throughout the application, examination, and hiring processes and throughout employment. If an individual is in doubt about their ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of a position or possession of any other requirement noted in a class specification or job announcement, they should always apply for a position and request reasonable accommodation at the appropriate time.
Senior Administrative Positions
Within the Classified Service, there are a number of positions that have been designated by the Personnel Commission and Board of Trustees as senior management. The employees in these positions are referred to in the State Education Code as “senior classified administrative employees”. These positions are:
- General Counsel
- Vice Chancellor/Chief Facilities Executive
- Vice Chancellor/Chief Financial Officer
- Vice Chancellor/Chief Information Officer
- Vice Chancellor of Human Resources
- Vice President, Administrative Services
Employees serving in these positions are afforded all of the rights, benefits, and burdens of any other classified employee, except that he or she shall not attain permanent status in the senior administrative position. The District may abolish or elect not to continue the employment of a classified administrative employee by providing at least 30 days advance notice.
Unlike other classified positions, senior classified administrative positions are filled from an unranked alphabetical list of persons who have been found to be qualified for the position as determined by the District Chancellor and Personnel Commission.
Before accepting a senior management position, you should be clear as to your rights and benefits. Please contact the Personnel Commission Office at PersComm@laccd.edu if you have any questions.
